About

Betta Bilda box variation

Betta Bilda was made by Airfix in the UK in the 1960's to try and compete with LEGO. It had some unique parts and building methods that set them apart at the time.

Betta Bilda seems to have been exported to quite a few countries, and had some ok sales. It is not uncommon to find the bricks together with older LEGO here in Norway. All the boxes we have in our collection originate from a toy store in Norway.

The 2x4 brick on the picture below is a LEGO brick just to show scale and colour.

The windows and doors

The packaging of the windows and doors were particularly interesting. They came with the "glass" still attached to the plastic sprue. So you would have to break them off and glued them on yourself. This likely helped cut the production costs down greatly, as the cheaper price was one of the factors used to compete with LEGO.
